 GPU – EFI

WE HAVE 2 WAYS TO SOLVE IT:

This error is prone to occur with a probability above 60% if you are using one of these models of Mac. Apple stopped providing support for NVIDIA from 2013-2014, possibly due to the early models reaching very high temperatures, leading to permanent damage to the graphics circuit.

Solutions for this problem:

  1. The first possibility to salvage your Mac requires a second graphics card [if you don’t have this second GPU, you would need to change the logic board]. These are typically INTEL cards. The device would need to have two GPUs, one dedicated (NVIDIA) and the other for support (INTEL). One of the two will always be active, providing visual information depending on the graphic demand at a certain moment. For example:
    • Games or Video Editing – NVIDIAOffice Work – INTEL The solution involves disabling the NVIDIA GPU by making modifications in the device’s BIOS-EFI. THESE CHANGES ARE NOT PERMANENT, AND RESETTING THE NVRAM WILL REACTIVATE THE NVIDIA GPU. Therefore, once this is done, it’s essential to set an EFI password to prevent its restoration.
NOTE: It’s important to explain that disabling the dedicated GPU reduces the graphical performance of the device by 50%.
  2. The second solution would be simpler and faster, but you would still lose 50% of the performance you were accustomed to with your previous device. It involves replacing the logic board with one that does not have a dedicated GPU. In this case, you wouldn’t run any risk of encountering this issue. If you choose the same model, it may or may not happen to you at some point.

Technical Explanation: WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS PROCESS IS THAT THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE SOCKET AND THE GPU BREAK OR CRACK, CAUSING THE ENERGY FLOW TO BE INCORRECT OR INTERRUPTED. THIS PARTIALLY OR COMPLETELY RESULTS IN THIS ERROR, WHICH CAN ALSO BE MISTAKEN FOR A SIMPLER ONE, SUCH AS A RAM ERROR.
